Freiberg Colloquium: Nickel - Copper - Platinum in Upper Lusatia

Nickel, copper, cobalt, platinum and palladium are considered critical non-substitutable raw materials for the energy transition and have been the focus of exploration programmes in recent years, including in Central Europe. In Lusatia and in the Šluknov region on both sides of the German-Czech border, these metals are enriched in magmatic Ni-Cu-PGE sulphide mineralisation associated with small-scale gabbro intrusions.
The lecture gives an insight into the geology, petrography, geochemistry and genesis of the gabbro intrusions and the magmatic sulphide mineralisations associated with them and also takes a look at the exploration potential for such mineralisations in Lusatia.

Location: TU Bergakademie Freiberg, large lecture theatre of the Abraham-Gottlob-Wernerbau,
Brennhausgasse 14 in Freiberg
