terra mineralia offers during the Christmas holidays

During the Christmas holidays from 23 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, terra mineralia will once again have lots of exciting things on offer for young and adult visitors alike.

When are we open and when are we closed?

terra mineralia in Freudenstein Castle is open on weekdays during the Christmas holidays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Mineralogical Collection Germany in the Krügerhaus is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This also applies to Monday, 29 December.

On weekends and public holidays, both exhibitions can be visited from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Both exhibitions are closed on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, as well as from 5 to 16 January due to inventory and construction work.

 

 

 

 

Public guided tour ‘Last Minute’
Sunday, 28 December and 4 January, 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday, 30 December, 2 p.m.

Adult visitors can join the public ‘Last Minute’ tour. On a tour of terra mineralia, they will learn everything about Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher's mineral collection and her beautiful mineral specimens. The tour takes place every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. – on 28 December and 4 January. Additionally, on Tuesday, 30 December at 2:00 p.m.

Hands-on laboratory ‘Research expedition’
Monday–Tuesday, 29–30 December, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.

For families and all curious visitors, the interactive laboratory ‘Research Expedition’ will be open on 29 and 30 December and on 3 and 4 January. Here, students will demonstrate the experiment of the month on the topic of volcanoes. At the volcano measuring stick, you can find out how big you would be as a volcano, and there is a volcano pump and, of course, volcanic minerals and rocks to try out.

Family tour ‘Night-time at the Museum’
Saturday, 27 December and 3 January, 6 p.m.

The family tour ‘Night at the Museum’ will take place on 27 December and 3 January, both at 6 p.m. Equipped with headlamps and UV torches, participants will search for fluorescent minerals in the dark exhibition. Exciting experiments await girls and boys in the interactive ‘Research Expedition’ laboratory.
